Training Program for Rats

Available Rat Babies

Studies have shown that rats are as intelligent as a two year old human. A recent study at the University of Georgia determined that rats posses metacognition, or the ability to know when you don't know something. Previously, only primates and humans were known to posses this ability.

 

Once tamed and trained to a clicker, a rat is nearly as easy to train as a dog and much easier to train than a cat. Read on to discover all that we can help you teach your rat to do.

Rat Tricks

Here's what you'll teach your rat to do using our Rat Tricks course:

 

Agility Obstacles:

  • A frame
  • Weave poles
  • Chute tunnel
  • Tire jump
  • Pipe jumps
  • A frame

Other Tricks :

  • Pull a basket up using a rope
  • Save a girl from a burning building
  • Raise a flag
  • Sit pretty
  • Walk on two feet
  • Push a baby carriage

Rat Babies Currently Available

We have a litter weaned on June 1, 2010 available for purchase. Sold bythe pair for $15.00 or singley for $10. Because rats are verysocial, we recommend purchasing them in pairs.

Both males and females are still available.

All rats purchased from White Mountain College for Pets come with:

  • A one week supply of of Harlan Teklad food
  • One change of litter (aspen and CareFresh® mix)
  • Rat care guide

We occasionally have older rats available for adoption. These will be listed here, when available.

A few facts about our breeding program:

  • We feed top quality Harlan Teklad rodent blocks and fresh mixed vegetables
  • Only two or three litters are bred each year, so we suggest getting on our waiting list or reserving your preference in advance.
  • Cider vinegar is added to the drinking water to promote a healthy urinary system
  • Rat families are handled multiple times daily
  • Only shredded aspen and CareFresh® bedding is used. Other products can contribute to respitory issues
  • We breed for both health and behavior characteristics
  • We extend a lifetime return option - at any time during your rat's life you need to part with them, we will take them back. In fact, this is part of our purchase contract.
